I grew up in Brazil, where a gift is never just handed over. It’s thoughtfully chosen, beautifully wrapped, and made to feel like an occasion. I’ve carried that with me ever since.
In 2009, my husband, our daughter and I left Brazil for Canada, where we made our home for 15 years. Three years ago we moved to Florida with our kids and welcomed Obi (our dog with a very big personality) to the family.
Years ago I left my job to be home with my children, and we began homeschooling. Today they’re more independent, and I found myself asking what I wanted to build for myself.
The answer arrived at my door. Someone sent me a beautiful basket, but when I opened it, everything inside was something I could have picked up at the grocery store. It was a kind gesture, but it didn’t feel special. I wanted to create gifts that do.
So I started The Gifted Box. I try everything before it goes in a box. I choose real makers with real stories, and I leave out anything that doesn’t earn its place. Fewer things, each one chosen with care.
I’ve always believed giving is better than receiving. And every gift should be worth unwrapping.
